2012: The Marijuana Movement. What Will 2013 Bring?

In basic terms the New Year is simply just a calendar change; a change in the numbers of the year that we use to associate with the present time; more or less a new set of those 12 months that we refer to as a 'year'. However, many use it as a chance to reflect back on the year that has passed in an effort to measure some form of forward development or progress, whether in our personal lives, business, or even the progression of a nation as a whole. A chance to reflect back on what has been accomplished while using those achievements to set the bar higher and to fuel the goals for the upcoming year.
This same approach, or measurement of success rather, can be applied to the marijuana movement of the past year, or what we know as 2012. Marijuana in general spent a majority of 2012 in a defensive position, much like it has since 1937 when the Marijuana Tax Act was passed. However, marijuana activists will measure 2012's success with regards to one day, November 6, 2012. On this day marijuana activists came out and legalized marijuana for recreational use in Colorado and Washington state. Many others around the United States also helped to pass decriminalization and medical marijuana laws. Although individual state laws differ from Federal Law we can see that there is a national consensus toward marijuana legalization.
December 22nd came around like any other day, even after a fictitious and fabricated idea that the world would end on December 21st in connection to a Mayan Calendar of some sort. But that leaves me to wonder, how does a fabricated story like "the end of the world" become so viral, and so believable? Yet something so real, with a true backing and support system of people who believe in it and have proof of it's benefits are disregarded by so many prohibitionists? Well it seems that those prohibitionists are becoming outnumbered as we move forward into 2013! Let's keep the movement moving. Happy New Year and as always, STAY MEDICATED!
